PLUS MORE ACTS TO BE ANNOUNCED EARLY NEXT YEAR
Argyll’s biggest live music concert, Oban Live, has today announced the first six acts confirmed for the event on June 2 and 3 next year.
Glasgow’s Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire will take to the stage to perform tracks from their newly released album Swithering, an album co-produced by admired Scottish producer Paul Savage (Mogwai, Emma Pollock, Admiral Fallow). Since releasing their eponymous album in late 2013, the band has been named International Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the Scottish Variety Awards and also played a five-night residency on The Late Late Show in the US which reached over 12 million viewers.
Also on the line-up is Admiral Fallow, a band formed in 2007 by five Glasgow-based students of music. They released their adored debut album, Boots Met My Face, in 2011 and its widely-acclaimed successor, Tree Bursts In Snow, the following year. Their extraordinary third record, Tiny Rewards, has received many plaudits since its release in May 2015.
Tiree born Skipinnish and Irish quartet We Banjo 3 are back by popular demand. Feedback from the 2016 Oban Live survey revealed the two bands as the audiences’ top favourites. It’s been a big year for We Banjo 3. Their latest record String Theory went straight to Billboard World number 1. They also played for President Obama on Capitol Hill. Meanwhile, last year’s Friday night headliners, Skipinnish, have been busy working on their new album due for release next year. The band is well known for their combination of traditional Highland and contemporary sounds.
Skerryvore return to get the audience jumping to their unique fusion of traditional music and urban sounds of rock, pop and funk. The band has become an international sensation since forming in Tiree in 2005, selling over 54,000 albums to date. The audience will be treated to tracks from the group’s new album, due for release in 2017.
Oban locals Ceol an Aire and The Argyll Ceilidh Trail will join forces to open the show on Friday June 2, 2017. Ceol an Aire was formed seven years ago following the success of the first Argyll Ceilidh Trail. This one-off team are currently getting to work on some new songs and sets that are sure to kick Oban Live off with a blast.
Early bird tickets, with a 25% discount off regular ticket prices, go on sale to the general public at 12pm, Saturday December 3 for a limited time only. Those hoping to buy early bird tickets are advised to get in early as the offer is whilst tickets last.
The remaining headline acts and dates for the full ticket release will be announced early next year.

2017 line-up:
Six acts confirmed for Oban Live 2017 will be announced in the Oban Live website and in The Oban Times Thursday, December 1. The remaining headline acts will be announced early next year.
Naomi Hoolahan, Head Event Director for Oban Live:
“Oban Live has requested information on the removal of the ‘red blaes’ surface from local councillors and Argyll & Bute Council. At present we are waiting for a response. Once we have this information, our event team will look at how and if this will impact plans for Oban Live 2017.
It is a huge operational challenge to make Mossfield and the surrounding area safe and accessible for major events, part of this operation includes the use of the ‘red blaes’ surface located at the stadium. This surface is essential not only to the Oban Live event but also to other key events held at the stadium where parking and access is already very limited, especially for those with mobility requirements.”
Naomi adds: “Investment in any community asset is a great thing for the town and we hope that the investment in Mossfield will upgrade the current facilities and increase the use of the stadium for events of all kinds. The team are very excited about Oban Live 2017 and look forward to launching the first acts and early bird tickets in the coming weeks.”
